Historical landscaped garden laid out between 1680-1730 for the poet Edmund Waller and his descendants. Features 300 yr old cloud formation yew hedges, formal lake and vistas ending with classical buildings and statues. Wooded walks around the grove offer respite from the heat on sunny days. A garden of almost 3 acres made from a rough field over 25 yrs ago. A series of terraces cut into the sloping site create the formal garden with long and cross vistas, lawns and deep borders. The aim is to provide interest throughout the yr with naturalistic planting and views borrowed from the surrounding countryside. Beyond this is a wildlife pond, stream, meadow and woodland gardens. This Chiltern hillside garden of 1½ acres is planted for year-round interest and has superb views. Lovingly and beautifully maintained, there are several different areas to relax in, each with their own character. Wildflower orchard, mixed borders, pond, vegetables, woodland area and a lovely hidden garden. Many climbers used in the garden which changes significantly through the seasons. A Japanese garden, shielded from the upper garden level by Shoji screens. A winding path leads you over a traditional Japanese bridge by a pond and waterfall, inviting you through a moon gate to reveal a purpose built tea house, all surrounded by traditional Japanese planting inc maples, cherry blossom trees, azaleas and rhododendrons. Opens for By Arrangement visits from May to 13th September for groups of up to 20.
A 2 acre garden containing drifts of common snowdrops as well as a few unusual ones. Strong structure provided by terracing, walls and topiarised yew hedging. Your visit will start with a short illustrated talk about snowdrop varieties before you explore the snowdrops lining a shrubbery path, woodland path and rockery. Naturalised snowdrops also line the lawn on either side of the driveway. The visit will end with tea and cakes. 3 acre wildlife friendly, year-round garden, comprising informal woodland and wild gardens, separated by streams lined by iris, primulas and astilbe. Over 350 shrubs and trees, many variegated or uncommon, marginal and bog plantings inc 80 hostas and a bed of stripy roses.
