Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire Gardens

Annwyn Arboretum, Nantgaredig

A 10 acre Arboretum (formerly a 9 hole golf course), planted 40 years ago with an extensive collection of common and unusual trees. These inc redwoods, southern beeches, limes, handkerchief tree and Magnolia macrophylla. Beautiful views over the Tywi valley with lots of fun things to explore inc a treasure hunt. Some uneven paths, so good footwear recommended.

Bridgend Inn, Llanychaer

Recently established and hidden behind pub front, discover a richly planted Japanese garden with pond and lawn areas. There are water features, raised beds, pergolas and arches. Variety of acers, wisteria, grasses, clematis, succulents, water lilies and bog plants, azaleas, ferns and much more to explore. An eclectic mix planted with skill and design flair – the dream of a passionate gardener.

Cae Bach, nr Crymych

A 1½ acre newly established garden designed to attract wildlife, particularly bees and butterflies. Wander through the garden and discover herbaceous borders, ponds, grasses and our Japanese garden with rill. Our rose garden has 50 varieties, and don’t miss the greenhouse, exotic area, conifer and heather area. We also have a wildflower meadow area, vegetable and fruit trees and fruit cage.

Cold Comfort Farm, Wolfscastle

Five acres of wildflower meadow alongside wrap around farm garden and small plant nursery. Perennial beds, showcasing interesting perennials from nursery stock, rockery, gravel garden, raised beds, greenhouses, polytunnel and compost. Welcoming garden under development on sloping plot, full of planting ideas for windy and difficult conditions. Outstanding views of the Preseli Mountains.

Cornerstone House, Glandwr

A rural sloping garden of an acre which features a pond, small sunken garden and a gravel area, patio and seating areas, and view of hills. A path leads through a wisteria covered pergola and shrubbery to another pergola with hops and climbing roses leading to a sun house. The garden contains many rhododendrons and azaleas. Fruit trees and low hedges separate the fruit cage and vegetable gardens.

Corseside Nursery, Pembroke

1½ acre eclectic tropical garden nestled in the Pembrokeshire countryside with stunning sea views. Wander winding paths to discover secret spaces filled with vibrant succulents and exotic plants. Spot planters made from recycled beach finds and garden treasures. Each corner blends tropical charm with seaside allure, offering a unique escape for garden enthusiasts and tranquillity seekers.

Dwynant

A ¾ acre garden set on a steep slope designed to sit comfortably within a verdant countryside environment with beautiful scenery and tranquil woodland setting. A garden with lily pond, selection of plants and shrubs inc azaleas, rhododendrons, hydrangeas, and rambling roses set amongst a carpet of bluebells. Seating in appropriate areas to enjoy the panoramic view and flowers.

Dyffryn Fernant, Llanychaer

Magical 2.4 ha garden, evolving from wilderness and ancient rocky landscape. Distinctively planted areas leading down to marsh and woodland, against backdrop of the Preselis. RHS Partner Garden. Planting inc: tulips, primulas, Camassias, Wisteria alba, orchard fruit blossom, roses. Peonies and Embothrium coccineum, salvias, dahlias, Hedychium, Canna, Colocasia, Ricinus, and ornamental grasses.

Dyffryn Mill, Llanmill

A rural garden which makes the most of its stunning setting. ‘Rewilding’ on a postage stamp with lake, pond, boggy scrapes and woodland planted in 2019. Hostas, ferns, corydalis, astilbes, epimediums abound and giant water tanks turned into planters to soften old industrial mill building. Wisteria and rambling roses, shrubbery, orchard, ‘hot’ slate bed. Wander along the river and through woodland.

Gelli Uchaf, Rhydcymerau

This 1½ acre garden complements our C17 Longhouse and 11 acre smallholding. In the garden trees and shrubs are underplanted with thousands of snowdrops, crocus, cyclamen, and daffodils, together with many rhododendrons, skimmias, clematis, rambling roses and hydrangeas. There are several wildflower hay meadows, wildlife ponds, stream and shepherd’s hut to explore beyond the main garden.

Grove of Narberth, Molleston

The garden is framed by ancient oaks and towering beeches, and from our hillside glade you can enjoy views across the rolling Pembrokeshire countryside to the Preseli Hills. 26 acres of woodlands, meadows and gardens, inc an historic walled garden, kitchen garden, and cut flower garden. Extensive woodland walks through the grounds, which inc some steep slopes and undulating paths.

House On Stilts, Ferryside

A ⅓ acre garden surrounds a mid- century modern house resembling a bird hide nestled in a rural estuary setting. A garden designed with an artist’s eye, subtle colour palette, form and texture. A mosaic of different habitats for wildlife, from a large pond at the rear to a dry cockle shell garden to the front. An emphasis on promoting biodiversity, whilst creating a relaxing space for people.

Llwyngarreg, Llanfallteg

Llwyngarreg is always a work in progress, delighting plant lovers with its many rarities inc primulas, many huge bamboos with Roscoeas, Hedychiums and salvias extending the season through to autumn colour. Trees and rhododendrons are underplanted with perennials. The sunken garden and gravel gardens contain unusual exotics. Springs form a series of linked ponds across the main garden, providing colourful bog gardens.

Moelfryn, Castel y Rhingyll

A ⅓ acre taking account of its Welsh hillside. Aesthetically pleasing, this eco-friendly garden has much to discover. From herbs, fruit and vegetable to shrubs and perennials, trees, mini meadow and orchard. Plants to note inc cranesbills, hydrangeas, clematis and wisteria. We also have cold frames, wormery, hot bin, pond, stumpery, and a propagation area. Hen keeping and holding advice can be given.

Neuadd y Felin, Garnant

A mature two acre smallholding with many different areas of interest. A large garden with sloping perennial beds and rose garden. There is a large dahlia display, mature shrubs and shaded planted areas. We have a 40 foot white wisteria climbing a pergola and wildlife and fish ponds. Wander through the meadow on the willow walk and explore the riverside walk with seated area.

Norchard, Manorbier

Historic gardens at a Medieval hall nestled in tranquil location and sheltered by an ancient oak woodland. Strong structure with formal and informal areas. Early walled gardens, restored Elizabethan parterre, ornamental kitchen garden, subtropical planting and orangery. 1½ acre orchard of old (many local) varieties. Young arboretum and meadow looking towards grist mill.

The Old Rectory, Lampeter Velfrey

Behind a formal front garden the woodland garden is a green hollow of historic charm; wildlife welcoming, with ancient and newly planted trees and shrubs. Spring brings snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells to the woodlands. Later rhododendrons, hydrangeas, acers, roses, daisies and geraniums bring pops of colour to the green backdrop. Approx two acres inc veg, ponds and unique garden buildings.

Pantybara, Velindre

An acre of garden on a sloping south facing hillside 250m high and terraced on several levels with dry stone walls. Designed to provide year-round interest, to benefit wildlife, provide food and as a setting for our home. The garden consists of a pond, bog garden, rockeries, perennial beds, mixed borders, dry stone walls and vegetable gardens.

Pentresite, Carmarthenshire

Approx. two acre garden developed over the last 18 years with extensive lawns, colour filled herbaceous and mixed borders, on several levels, a bog garden and magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. There are many unusual trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants, with an interesting collection of hydrangeas This garden is south facing and catches the south westerly winds from the sea.

Pen-y-Garn, Foelgastell

1½ acres set in former limestone quarry sympathetically developed to sit within the landscape, with five distinct areas cultivated herbaceous borders and wild no mow lawns. A shady area with woodland planting and wild ponds; no dig kitchen garden; terraced borders with shrubs and herbaceous planting; lawns and pond.

Pont Trecynny, Garn Gelli Hill

A diverse garden of 3½ acres. Meander through the meadow planted with native trees, pass the pond and over a bridge which takes you along a path, through an arboretum, orchard and gravel garden and into the formal garden full of cloud trees, exotic plants and pots,which then leads you to the stream and vegetable garden.

Scolton Manor, Bethlehem

We recently acquired a collection of 60 salvia varieties (from Lamphey Walled Garden) now sited within our working walled garden. This features organic produce and flowers, a willow arch, pineapple house, perennial borders and arboretum. A Tree Nursery of endangered native trees from West Wales, grown from seed for local groups to plant. The Walled Garden is part of ‘One Historic Garden’ scheme.

Shoals Hook Farm, Haverfordwest

Approx six acre garden on our smallholding. Designed and made by ourselves over 29 years. Inc flower borders, vegetable garden, fruit trees, woodland walk, lake garden and specimen trees. Planted for the different seasons and to encourage wildlife. Many spring bulbs at the start of the year, ending with a late summer prairie style grass garden area.

Skanda Vale Hospice Garden, Saron

Tranquil garden of approx 1 acre, built for therapy, relaxation and fun. Maintained by volunteers, lawns and glades link garden buildings with willow spiral, wildlife pond, borders, sculptures and stained glass. Blue and gold planting at entrance inspires calm and confidence, leading to brighter red, orange and white. Hospice facilities open for viewing.

Upton Castle Gardens, Cosheston

Privately-owned, listed, historic gardens and arboretum of 35 acres surround C13 castle (not open). Terraces of herbaceous borders and formal rose garden with over 150 roses provide constant summer interest. Walled productive kitchen garden, chapel garden with millennial yew. Rare magnolias, rhododendrons, camellias, and new hydrangea beds. Woodland with rare and champion trees. RHS Partner Garden.

West Wales Willows, Gwernogle

Located in a scenic valley, halfway up a mountain, the National Plant Collection of Salix (willow) is set in a sloping field with grass pathways. Approx 260 varieties are on show, inc varieties for pollinators, autumn colour, bio fuel, hedging and windbreaks. The field also has sample living willow structures on display inc domes, tepee, long arch/tunnel, hedges and a new arbour.
