About 10 Sandhills
I came to Hightown in 1997 after leaving the concrete jungle of London, eager to create a green space. Having grown up in Hightown village from the age of 10 I never expected to return to make a home here. I soon discovered Hightown’s hidden treasures. Those that lie beyond the dunes, the abandoned beach with its winding muddy estuary, the annual return of the Canadian geese, the big skies. It was curiosity that led me to my little bungalow overlooking the sea. Sandhills has given me decades of pleasure and frustration as I discovered what survives and thrives in the extremely sandy soil and what tolerates our salty westerly winds. For 12 years I have been a host on Airbnb sharing the garden space with guests in the Owl House and the Slipper House. People who stay have a real appreciation for nature and fall in love with Hightown too.
