About 11 Ashcroft Drive
The garden is based on the Persian design principles of the ancient paradise principles of ‘Chahar Bagh’ meaning 4 gardens in symmetrical design complete with cooling water feature in the middle. Essentially the garden is comprised of 4 symmetrical and equal sized beds which receive maximum sunshine throughout the day.
The planting is again formed of symmetrical repeat planting and features plants you would find in a typical Persian garden such as roses, Mediterranean style plants such as eryngium, lilies, nepeta and salvias. These flower throughout the summer and can cope with the high summer temperatures of over 30 degree Celsius which you find in a Persian style garden.
The spring planting comprises of tulips and alliums. These bulbs originated in the mountains of Turkey and Persia which were brought to Europe in the 17th century.
The garden is anchored by box ball plants in the corners which provide evergreen structure throughout the year.
The sounds of water, scents of English roses and lilies on a summer evening evoke the essence of the Paradise garden.
It certainly coped very well with the 40 degree Celsius temperatures we experienced in 2022 and also with the wet summer in 2023
