About 8 Church Lane
Our lawn was completely destroyed by chafer grubs in 2019. After much deliberation, we took this as an opportunity to commission a professional designer to create a beautiful new outdoor space whilst still maintaining the views of the rolling countryside beyond. Despite only being planted up in 2020, it is already showing maturity. It is a wildlife friendly, naturalistic garden, that is relatively easy to look after with a long flowering season and year round interest.
The free-flowing lawn is surrounded by a colourful, rich and diverse planting scheme with shrubs, grasses, perennials and bulbs. An informal path runs through a colourful gravel garden, planted with aromatics and grasses leading to the wildlife pond and sunken garden with oak pergola and fragrant climbers. There is also a short woodland walk, plus a small area with fruit beds and an asparagus bed. Ample seating provides convenient places to pause and enjoy.
The garden is now a haven for wildlife, we have seen a noticeable increase in biodiversity with amphibians, diverse pond life, dragon flies, more insects, pollinators and wild birds. We enjoy our garden immensely and spend a lot of time in it, relaxing and gardening at leisure and enjoying the wildlife, new colours and plants that immerge every day.
