About Good Robins
What was agricultural land 40 years ago is now a developing garden with a number of fascinating features. The trees, in particular, are worthy of note. Acers, young and old, Japanese and English, bring colour throughout the year, while the recently established apple orchard is still to come to fruition. Paulownia, Pride of India and Parrotia are found along with Liquidamber, English Oak, Red Oak, Holm Oak, Ash, Copper Beech, Eucalyptus, Holly, Silver Birch, Rowan, Willows, Amelanchier, Lilac, Cherries, Pears, Damson, a Strawberry Tree, a young Toffee Apple Tree, Cordylines, Trachycarpus, pink and white Hazels (including Kentish Cob), Elder, Olive, Ceanothus, Tamarisk, Cotinus (Smoke Bush), Acacia (Mimosa), Macrocarpa, Sweet and Horse Chestnut and, of course, Leylandii.
In Spring, snowdrops, crocus, narcissi and tulips follow each other as the season progresses.
Summer brings French and Yellow Irises, water lilies, grasses, including Pampas and Stipa Gigantica, a wild flower meadow, Cosmos, Rudbeckia, Roses, Hydrangeas, Viburnum, Nandina, Black Bamboo, Viper’s Buglos (including Echium), Hollyhocks, Camellias, Cornus, Paeonias, Philadelphus, Buddleia and more.
The raised beds include potatoes, onions, garlic and salad crops, depending on time of year and rotation. Tomatoes and grapes are found in the greenhouse.
