A contemporary 3 acre rectory garden designed by multi-award-winning designer, Anoushka Feiler. Taking the Old Rectory’s C18 history and its religious setting as a key starting point, the main garden at the back of the house has been divided into six parts; a kitchen garden, glasshouse and flower garden, a woodland menagerie, a pleasure garden, a park and an orchard. Elements of C18 design such as formal structures, parterres, topiary, long walks, occasional seating areas and traditional craft work have been introduced, but with a distinctly C21 twist through the inclusion of living walls, modern materials and features, new planting methods and abstract installations. Evenley is a charming village with a central village green surrounded by many period houses (not open), an excellent village shop and The Red Lion pub which offers first class food and a warm welcome. Evenley gardens are a mix of established gardens and those being developed over the past 5 yrs. They all have mixed borders with established shrubs and trees. Hostellarie is a long town garden divided into rooms. Lawns and grass paths lead you through varied colour borders, ponds and water features. Courtyard garden shaded by an old clematis has over 40 different hostas, there are even more mature specimen hostas in the north facing bed and other shady spots. Roses, clematis, cottage and gravel borders, and a welcoming relaxing atmosphere. 16 Leys Avenue is a town garden with two water features, plus a stream and a pond flanked by a 12ft clinker-built boat. There are six raised beds and an area of sweet peas. A patio lined with acers has two steps down to a gravel garden with paved paths. Middleton House is a gently terraced garden designed by James Alexander-Sinclair with beautifully planted beds and vegetable area, and productive greenhouse. Post Cottage is a quiet peaceful garden which has been designed to give colour and interest throughout the seasons. Flore gardens have been open since 1963 as part of the Flore Flower Festival. The partnership with the NGS started in 1992 with openings every yr since. Flore is an attractive village with views over the Upper Nene Valley. We have a varied mix of gardens, large and small. They have all been developed by friendly, enthusiastic and welcoming owners who are in their gardens when open. Our gardens range from the traditional to the eccentric providing year-round interest. Some have been established over many yrs and others have been developed more recently. There are greenhouses, gazebos, summerhouses, water features and seating opportunities to rest while enjoying the gardens. Opens Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June.
We have been developing this romantic garden for about 20 yrs and now have over 1800 roses inc English, French and Italian varieties. Many unusual water features and specimen trees. Ferns inc tree ferns over 8ft high. Roses, scramblers and ramblers climb into trees, over arbours and arches. Collection of 140 Japanese maples. Opens Sunday 22nd and Sunday 29th June.
Rockingham Castle was built on the orders of William the Conqueror and offers a spectacular view over the Welland Valley. The original Motte and Bailey design still influences the sweeping formal gardens you see today. These inc a wealth of roses from hybrid teas to climbers covering every wall and features five key areas covering 13 acres, they are the terrace, the cross, rose garden, jewel borders and the dramatic wild garden. Opens Tuesday 24th June.
Dodford is a charming small village in a very peaceful location. This new and evolving group, based around the beautiful 1½ acre garden at Dodford House which inc productive kitchen and cut flower garden, rose walkway, long borders, formal lawns and topiary, and a box parterre. There will be several gardens open on the day of contrasting types and styles, please visit www.ngs.org.uk for information closer to the open day. There is something to delight everyone in this group from children, who be able to meet the lovely alpacas and join in with the duck run on the stream that runs through the village, to adults exploring the lovely gardens. For 2025 we will also be welcoming a community choir who will be singing in the grounds of Dodford House. Opens Sunday 29th June.
Arthingworth features a Grade II* listed St Andrew’s Church, a friendly pub, and a scenic setting by the River Ise, which you can cross via a small bridge. The village offers a variety of open gardens, ranging from small to park-like. Visitors are welcome to explore eight gardens, inc hidden ones and Bosworth House, which has taken 25 yrs to develop. Kilsby’s name has long been associated with Stephenson’s famous railway tunnel and an early skirmish in the Civil War. The houses and gardens of the village offer a mixture of sizes and styles, which reflect its development through time. Sulgrave is a small historic village with eight gardens opening, and teas and plants for sale. There is something for everyone, from perfectly trimmed bonsai to large oaks. Rectory Farm has lovely views, a rill, well, and planted arbours. Mill Hollow Barn, a large garden with lakes, streams, ponds and many rare and interesting trees, shrubs and perennials. The Watermill, a contemporary garden designed by James Alexander-Sinclair, set around a C16 watermill and mill pond. A quirky garden at Wootton House with a good selection of rare and interesting plants. The Chesnuts, a small garden, but with huge interest, where every plant tells a story. Four new gardens opening this yr. Bentleys Farm Bungalow has some exotic plants and an extensive bonsai collection. The Thatched House demonstrates substantial new planting in an established 1 acre garden, inc a stumpery. Eagle House is a beautiful, traditional garden. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Chapmans Close will not be opening as part of the group. Opens Sunday 29th June.
