This 3 acre mature garden provides year-round interest. In February, swathes of snowdrops greet you, followed by daffodils and other spring bulbs. Topiary features and sculptures guide you through the different areas of the garden, with its mixed planted terraces and herbaceous borders, ponds, orchard and wildflower areas. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 10th February to 21st September for groups of up to 25.
Organic cottage style garden which is productive, highly decorative and wildlife friendly. It is full of colour and scent from spring to autumn. Several distinct areas inc fruit and vegetables. Large beds filled with over 600 varieties of plants with paths you can wander and get close. Also features seating, gravel garden, pond, shade planting, pergola with grapevine, wildflower lawn. Opens for By Arrangement visits from June to 14th September for groups of up to 25.
An award-winning, professionally designed garden in ⅓ acre. The free-flowing lawn is surrounded by colourful, naturalistic borders with trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials. An informal path runs through a colourful gravel garden, planted with aromatics and grasses leading to the wildlife pond and sunken garden with oak pergola. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 10th July to 10th August for groups of between 10 and 36.
City centre oasis, a short walk from the centre of Nottingham. Garden presented on three levels, separated by steep steps with handrails. The top terrace overlooks a large koi pond surrounded by bog plants, marginals and herbaceous perennials. Seating areas on second terrace under mature beech trees. On third level, a summerhouse as well as a small pond and densely-planted borders. Free on-street parking. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 19th May to August for groups of 15+.
Large garden behind old farm near village centre. The old paddock is an ornamental wilderness of unmown grass with perennials, a turf mound and wildlife ponds with clipped yew hedges surrounded by maturing trees. The cart shed is rebuilt as a pergola with roses and the old garden with more roses and perennial borders is divided from the orchard by high hedges creating hidden places to explore. A small garden packed with a wide variety of plants providing flower and foliage colour year-round. Collections of alpines, bulbs, mini, small and medium size hostas (60+), ferns, grasses, carnivorous plants, succulents, perennials, shrubs and trees. A pond and a greenhouse with subtropical plants. Troughs and pots. Home-made crafts. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 19th May to 9th August for groups of between 5 and 20.
Started as a lawn at the front and the back and 125 junipers and one rosebush. Now a varied ⅓ acre. Bamboo fenced Asian species area with traditional outdoor wood fired Ofuro bath, herbaceous border, raised species rhododendron bed, vegetables, greenhouse, pond area and art studio and terrace. Opens for By Arrangement visits from May to 16th June for groups of between 8 and 15.
Oasis Gardens is a community project transformed from abandoned field to an award winning garden. Managed by volunteers the gardens boast over 30 project areas, several garden enterprises and hosts many community events. Take a look in the Cactus Kingdom, the Liquorice Garden, Pre-school play village, Wildlife Wonderland and the wonderful variety of trees, plants, seasonal flowers and shrubs. Opens for By Arrangement visits from March to 1st October for groups of up to 30.
An artful eye for design/texture/colour/love of unusual plants/trees makes this a welcoming gem to visit. One time playground for 4 children, this 2 acre organic hillside garden has matured over 27yrs into a much admired, popular, landscape garden with beautiful views. New garden planting/design at the bottom – pond attracts diverse wildlife to complement plantings. A garden in its penultimate year of opening. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 20th May to 16th August for groups of between 15 and 30.
3 acre garden noted for its extensive variety of trees, shrubs and perennials, many rare or unusual. Long luxuriant herbaceous borders, rose arches, alpine/scree garden, large wildlife pond and area of woodland and acid loving plants. Spectacular views of the Minster across a wildflower meadow and ha-ha. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 20th April to 26th July for groups of up to 30.
Promoting the enjoyment of art. Established in 1988, Patchings is set in 50 acres with a visitor centre and galleries – a haven for artists and a tranquil setting for visitors. Visitors may watch artists at work on the surrounding views. An exhibition of recent work in oil and watercolour by David Curtis ROI, RSMA will be on show in the Barn Gallery.
1.2 acre garden being extensively remodeled and replanted by its current owners. Garden wraps around an early Georgian farmhouse (not open). Explore a number of distinct areas inc a formal garden planted with ornamental grasses and white-flowering plants, a large Mediterranean-style gravel patio, productive garden, new orchard, wildflower areas and courtyard. Imaginative and inspirational is how the garden has been described by visitors. A huge variety of perennials, grasses, shrubs and trees combined with an eye for colour and design. Jungle area with exotic lush planting contrasts with tender perennials particularly salvias thriving in raised beds and in gravel garden with stream. Unique and interesting objects complement planting. Opens for By Arrangement visits for June and July for groups of between 15 and 50.
As featured in Garden News magazine, and described as “A heavily planted heaven”, with colourful wildlife-friendly plants. This is a small cottage garden with features such as a sedum roof, decked seating area, summerhouse and water features. Different planting zones add unique interest. A wildlife stream meanders down between ponds and bog areas. Art studio open. Opens for By Arrangement visits from May to 30th August for groups of between 8 and 30.
The grass-lined approach to this garden between yew hedges sets the tone to the wide sweeps of lawn and generous terrace. Herbaceous beds, irises, roses and rambling roses scrambling into fruit trees. The mature planting of shrubs and weeping trees enhances this pretty barn conversion on the edge of the Wellow Dyke.
