THE NATIONAL GARDEN SCHEME MICRO SHOW GARDEN
Our garden theme: SUPPORT
Having a presence at regional shows is an important part of raising awareness of the work of the National Garden Scheme and this year’s micro show garden at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show (RWAS) does just that. Based on the theme of ‘Support’ the garden, designed and created by Jude Boutle of Mow, Grow, Tidy horticultural gardening services of Llanbister – who is also our volunteer treasurer for Powys – the garden embodies much of what the National Garden Scheme stands for.
Jude (pictured above right) talks us through the garden:
“Our planting reflects the yellow and white of our brand plus orange tones to bring additional warmth. Our iconic garden gate leads the viewer into a gravel path with low growing creeping plants at its margins. One side of the path is delineated by a natural barrier created from woven sticks. There is a beautifully fragrant rose and thyme to one side and beyond the barrier hardy perennials provide height and define the main planting area which is filled with shrubs, hardy perennials and low growing creeping plants.
“At the end of the path, at 45 degrees another woven hazel divider defines another growing space for a companion planting of flowers and edibles including chard, French Marigolds and calendula.
“The garden gate has a sign announcing that this garden is about to open to the public through the National Garden Scheme to raise funds for our beneficiary charities. A roll of entry tickets is attached to the gate post.
“The design fits the theme of support through the structures supporting the plants, and the plants sustain and support the gardener. The garden opens to raise funds for the National Garden Scheme which supports many charities which provide much needed support.”
You can support Jude and the team at the RWAS this week by visiting them at the Royal Welsh Show ground at Builth Wells LD2 3SY.
