Popcorn wreaths and garlands
Popcorn is a wonderfully cheap and effective product to use for Christmas decorations. The wreaths are great for the birds hung in trees or use a popcorn garland to decorate your tree or mantlepiece indoors.
What you need:
- A bag of corn for popping
- A tablespoon of oil
- Cranberries or rose hips (something colourful that the birds will like)
- Strong thread
- Needle
- Florist wire
Instructions
Pop your corn as instructed on the packet – usually a tablespoon of oil heated in a large pan, add the corn and put on the lid shaking it until all the corn has popped.
Garlands
Threading popcorn onto thick cotton using a large needle is the easiest way to create long swags of popcorn to hang on a tree – inside or outside. You can add cranberries or rose hips to add colour.
Wreaths for the birds
We had a metal heart shape but you could use a metal coat hanger to create a heart or round shape using the hook to hang your wreath. Using florist wires we threaded the popcorn and attached it to the metal shape, weaving it round the shape. It can be quite fiddly but the result is effective.
Best hung outdoors in cold, dry weather.
Nibble as you go!
