Talking Snowdrops – free Garden Collective talk on 5th February

Join our former Chief Executive George Plumptre in live conversation with garden owner and snowdrop expert Elizabeth Cairns who opens her garden at Knowle Hill Farm in Kent for the National Garden Scheme in February.

George is a regular contributor to the Garden Collective (formerly Scribehound) along with well-known gardening writers, broadcasters and designers including Alan Titchmarsh and Tom Stuart-Smith. Garden Collective is an online gardening portal launched in 2024 for which the contributors all write a monthly article which you can either read online or listen to.

They also produce livestreams or podcasts, with guest speakers and George will be chatting to Elizabeth online at 6pm on Thursday 5th February.

You can join them free by clicking on this link: Snowdrop Livestream 5.2.2026. 6pm.

Looking ahead to Elizabeth’s two open days on Saturday and Sunday 7th and 8th February, they will celebrate what it is that makes snowdrops such a unique part of our gardening calendar, why everyone loves them – whether they know the Latin names or not – and how the popularity of snowdrops seems to have expanded hugely in recent years, and made them into collector’s items for the dedicated enthusiasts or galanthophiles.

As we are at the beginning of the snowdrop season, George and Elizabeth will share stories of some of their favourite snowdrop gardens, at the same time as talking about how the urge for people to get outdoors as winter comes to an end means that they will visit snowdrop gardens in huge numbers. More than 100 gardens will open in aid of the National Garden Scheme between now and the end of March, most of them with snowdrops as a major feature and you can find them all on the website by clicking the link on the Snowdrops page here: Snowdrop Gardens.

The livestream on 5th February is free.

In addition Garden Collective is offering subscribers to the National Garden Scheme newsletter a special introductory offer of three months @ £1 subscription followed by £70 for a year. This gives access to the whole archive of articles and audio as well as the new daily content.
