Open in Warwickshire this week

Bridge Nursery, Napton

Clay soil? It can be very challenging but here is an acre of garden with an exciting range of plants which thrive in hostile conditions. Grass paths lead you round borders filled with many unusual plants, a pond and bamboo grove complete with panda! A peaceful haven for wildlife and visitors. Comments are often made about the tranquillity of the garden. Opens every weekend in June.

Ansley Gardens, Ansley

Ansley is a small ex-mining village situated in north Warwickshire. In 2024 the village won Gold in the Britain in Bloom Competition so is well worth a visit. The seven gardens in and around the village that are opening are a selection of different styles and offerings and this year there are some new gardens opening. They range from a very small traditional cottage garden crammed with flowers and pots to larger gardens and those maximising the amazing views of the countryside. There are small cottage gardens, a beautiful farmhouse garden complete with ducks and guinea fowl, an amazing tropical garden as well as a country garden with mature plants and ancient roses – something to inspire everyone. Most of the gardens are in the village with the opportunity to walk across the fields on public footpaths to the others if you are able. (There is parking available if not). Opens Sunday 14th June.

Bournville Village, Birmingham

Six distinctive gardens showcase varied planting styles, historic character and imaginative design, from secluded contemporary spaces to traditional cottage and Tudor-inspired settings. One garden blends sculptural evergreens, roses and passion flowers with hidden paths, intimate rooms, seating, a raised water feature and vine-clad tree house, creating a sense of discovery. Another features a garden railway through Mediterranean-style planting, with a lawn framed by colourful borders. A compact suburban plot highlights low-maintenance, wildlife-friendly planting rich in character. A large mature cottage garden offers abundant year-round colour and texture. A Tudor garden surrounds a yeoman’s home and hall house, with parterre, orchards, pleached lime, wildflower areas, woodland, herb plots and a Tudor privy. A final garden reimagines a classic Bournville plot with apple, birch, hornbeam, perennial borders, gravel paths, raised beds and a wildlife pond. Opens Sunday 14th June.

Maxstoke Castle, Coleshill

Five acres of garden and grounds with roses, herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees in the courtyard and immediate surroundings of this C14 moated castle. Opens Sunday 14th June, pre-booking essential.
