During his visit on Wednesday 7th July, the Prince met NHS staff, patients and their loved ones at the eight-bed palliative care unit, which opened its doors in September 2019. The £7.25m unit was largely funded by Macmillan Cancer Support and the National Garden Scheme, who each gave £2.5m. The additional funding came from the Welsh Government and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.
Whether you are looking for a restful, waterside spot, tumbling herbaceous borders, a shady woodland walk or spectacular borrowed landscapes, there is plenty to choose from in the National Garden Scheme’s collection of gardens opening throughout the rest of the year. For many of these gardens pre-booking is now only essential where mentioned on the garden page, otherwise you can buy your ticket on arrival at the gate.
Join Mary Berry and the National Garden Scheme, and celebrate your own garden this summer to raise money for some of the most important and best-loved nursing and health charities in the UK. It doesn’t matter whether your garden is large or small, a horticultural delight or a children’s playground, this event is for everyone and you can still get involved. Just sign up, invite your guests and have fun.
Vital to the health of plants and gardens, bees have a special place in the hearts of many National Garden Scheme garden owners. From those who keep hives, host wild bee colonies or provide homes for solitary bees, to wonderful wildflower meadows and garden planting designed to encourage and support pollinators, we have a fabulous diversity of bee-friendly gardens to explore.
We are delighted to launch our programme of 2021 special events. These are a small number of gardens where the open day events are for small groups only and offer something extra such a talk by the head gardener, special refreshments or privileged access. Book your tickets now!
