The National Garden Scheme Garden Visitor’s Handbook is your essential garden-visiting guide for 2020. From extensive country landscapes and romantic cottage gardens, to urban hideaways and ancient woodlands, we open the gates to a diverse range of exceptionally beautiful gardens across England and Wales. With thousands to choose from, opening from February to October, your perfect garden awaits.
With the blossoms and blooms of spring and summer all but forgotten and many gardens closed to the public, you could be forgiven for thinking that as we retreat inside from the cold that the gardening year is over. But, far from being a time of rest, winter can be a really productive and beautiful time in the garden.
Have you found the perfect garden using our garden finder only to realise that you’re busy on the open day? A garden open by arrangement accepts groups of visitors to their garden for a more personalised visit, on a pre-agreed date. Usually, the garden will advertise a range of dates available that they are willing to open so that groups can decide on the most suitable option for them.
In 2019 we are focusing on the importance of social prescribing and the role of gardening and gardens in helping to create a positive path to health. We have a host of inspiring stories about people whose lives have been transformed by their gardens, plus garden recommendations tailored to soothe your soul.
