Berkshire gardens open in August

Berkshire has a variety of gardens open to visit and explore in August, find out more below…

The Old Rectory, Lower Basildon

A 2 acre garden based around mature trees (notably cedar, magnolia and mulberry) with a pond and crinkle crankle wall. Plantings inc fruit trees, white border, rose and peony beds, herbaceous long border and substantial kitchen garden. In AONB the garden also benefits from proximity to listed church (site of memorial to Jethro Tull) and Thames river walks. Opens Sunday 3rd August.

Coworth Park, Ascot

A rare opportunity to enjoy a guided tour with the Head Gardener at Coworth Park, followed by a cream tea in the Drawing Room. Set amongst 240 acres of gardens, parkland, paddocks and woodland. Highlights inc the beautiful terrace and rose gardens bordered by lavender, a sunken garden, weeping lime trees, and a stunning 10 acre wildflower meadow. Visitors are invited to arrive from 12pm & 2.30pm as the garden tours will start promptly at 12.30pm & 3pm. Please email [email protected] in advance of any dietary or allergy requirements. Opens Thursday 14th August.

Wembury, Maidenhead

A wildlife friendly, plant lover’s cottage garden with borders generously planted with bulbs, perennials, grasses and shrubs for successional interest for every season. Productive vegetable garden and greenhouses. Many pots and baskets with seasonal annuals and tender perennials, especially salvias. Opens Friday 15th August, pre-booking essential.

Belvedere, Newbury

A garden of 2½ acres consisting of herbaceous borders, rose garden, fruit trees with woodland, bamboo and rhododendron walks. A formal parterre garden with dahlias. Opens Sunday 17th August.

13 Broom Acres, Sandhurst

A spellbinding ¼ acre, suburban, romantic style garden with shrubbery, exotics, specimen trees, scented climbers and mixed herbaceous borders. Densely planted and decadently flowering, a feast for all the senses. Come for the garden, stay for the magic and discover why romance remains compelling, timeless and enduring. Opens Sunday 17th August.

Stockcross House, Stockcross

Romantic 2 acre garden set around a listed former Victorian rectory, created over the last 31 yrs. Features deep mixed borders with succession planting and emphasis on both height and strong complementary colour combinations. A wisteria clad pergola, an orangery, a folly with a reflecting pond, a croquet lawn and pavilion, naturalistic planting and a pond on the lower level, a small stumpery, and a kitchen garden. Opens Sunday 17th August.
