The tranquil Flower Garden of C18 poet William Cowper, who said ‘Gardening was of all employments, that in which I succeeded best’, has plants introduced prior to his death in 1800, many mentioned in his writings. The Summerhouse Garden, now a Kitchen Garden, inc heritage vegetables organically grown, also herb and medicinal beds and the summerhouse Cowper called his ‘verse manufactory’. The gardens at Danesfield were completed in 1901 by Robert Hudson, the Sunlight Soap magnate who built the house. Since the house opened as a hotel in 1991, the gardens have been admired by several thousand guests each yr. However, in 2009 it was discovered that the gardens contained outstanding examples of pulhamite in both the formal gardens and the waterfall areas. The 100 yr old topiary is also outstanding. A restored walled kitchen garden with vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers as the centre piece of this 40 acre estate. The surrounding waterway is bordered by a wildflower meadow, attracting heron, egret and kingfisher. Opened in September 2018, Horatio’s Garden at the National Spinal Injuries Centre, Stoke Mandeville Hospital is designed by Joe Swift. The fully accessible garden for patients with spinal injuries has been part funded by the NGS. The beautiful space is cleverly designed to bring the sights, sounds and scents of nature into the heart of the NHS. Everything is high quality and carefully designed to bring benefit to patients who often have lengthy stays in hospital. Opens Saturday 7th June.

Since the C17, a house and grounds have been recorded on the site of Lilies in Buckinghamshire. Rebuilt in 1870, the current owners have lovingly restored and renovated the house (not open) and surrounding gardens. There are several acres of formal lawns and gardens, with mature specimen trees. The woodlands, large walled garden, and flower meadow complete the picture. Opens Thursday 3rd July.
A variety of gardens set in this attractive Chiltern village in an AONB. You can start off at one end of the village and wander through stopping off halfway for tea at the beautiful Anglo-Saxon church built in 975. The church has recently received a lottery grant for restoration and many medieval wall paintings have been found. Tours will be given of these discoveries. The gardens reflect different style houses inc several old cottages, converted barns, Elizabethan and Georgian houses (houses not open). There are herbaceous borders, shrubs, trees, old-fashioned roses, hostas, topiary, Koi and lily ponds, kitchen gardens, play areas for children and the River Misbourne runs through a few. Described by visitors as ‘a real gardener’s garden’. A fairly new 1½ acre garden set around a Grade II listed former brickmaker’s cottage (not open). The garden features borders packed full of perennials, a small meadow, and a small orchard, creating a haven for wildlife, with over 20 different types of butterfly spotted in 2023. A garden of almost 3 acres made from a rough field over 25 yrs ago. A series of terraces cut into the sloping site create the formal garden with long and cross vistas, lawns and deep borders. Rackleys was a farm built in the 1700s and has been lovingly restored into a wedding and events venue. It is set in 7 acres of stunning gardens with sweeping views over the Chilterns. The gardens boast a wide range of flowering trees and shrubs as well as roses, herbaceous perennials and bulbs that provide continuous colour throughout the yr. Opens Sunday 27th July.

A 2 acre garden containing drifts of common snowdrops as well as a few unusual ones. Strong structure provided by terracing, walls and topiarised yew hedging. Your visit will start with a short illustrated talk about snowdrop varieties before you explore the snowdrops lining a shrubbery path, woodland path and rockery. Naturalised snowdrops also line the lawn on either side of the driveway. The visit will end with tea and cakes. The Walled Garden at Wormsley Estate is a 2 acre garden providing flowers, vegetables and tranquil contemplative space for the family. For many yrs the garden was neglected until Sir Paul Getty purchased the estate in the mid 1980s.
