Bunny Guinness – Sibberton Lodge

In her own Cambridgeshire garden, Bunny Guinness demonstrates all the principles that have guided her career as a garden designer as well as imaginative plantsmanship. At Chelsea Flower Show she has designed six gold-medal winning gardens as well as serving as a judge and assessor of the large show gardens.

A Closer Look…

Bunny’s own garden is a delightful embodiment of her style, an original but well-organised mixture of miniature ornamental farm, family garden and plantsman’s paradise, all built up on the all-important principles of sustainability and self-sufficiency as well as, in this case, a need for low maintenance.

Close to the house is the main formal area of flower garden with the all-important kitchen garden beyond from where, as Bunny says ‘we eat what’s in season. Beyond are paddocks for Dexter cattle, Soay sheep, bees and Oxford Sandy and Black pigs for which Bunny designed and built a special stone pig sty. As well as the reassuring domesticity the garden plays as vital role in her career as a designer; it is where she can experiment with planting ideas and combinations and it is a shop-window for clients.
