A large garden, with swathes of daffodils in the orchard a spring feature. Extensive wildflower planting along edge of wood features aconites, snowdrops, wood anemones, fritillaries and dog tooth violets. Other parts of garden will have hellebores and early camelias. Plantwomens garden,developed over 25 years to inc collections of hardy geraniums, agaves, ferns, persicaria and grasses.The garden has a quirky mix of salvage items. A wildflower lawn is a work in progress, a small rockery, upcycled garden room with mature grapevine, mixed borders and a large patio with pot displays. Former ancestral Georgian Home of the Meynell family, the gardens focus on sustainability, organic and wildlife friendly themes. There is a tropical style garden, ponds, hosta’s, vegetables, C18 potting shed, veteran yew tree, kitchen garden and hillside rhododendron garden with a stoned path by the upper woodland overlooking the gardens below. Beautiful view of Melbourne Pool from balustraded terrace running length of 1829 house. Garden drops steeply by paths or steps to lawn with herbaceous borders and bank of some 60 shrubs. Numerous paths lead to different areas of the garden, providing varied planting opportunities inc a bog garden, glade, shrubbery, grasses, herb and kitchen garden, rose tunnel, arbour, orchard and small woodland. A private site of nearly 12 acres, established in 1920, cultivated in a variety of ways, inc organic, no dig and potager style. Come and chat with plot holders about their edibles and ornamentals. Deceptive ⅓ acre plot of mature trees, landscaped lawns, orchard and cottage style planting. Unusual perennials, species groups such as astrantia, lychnis, thalictrum, heuchera and 40+ clematis. Acers, actea, hosta, ferns and acanthus lie within this interesting garden. Through a hidden gate, another smaller plot of similar planting, with delphinium, helenium, Echinacea, acers and hosta. The garden is small but full of plants collected over nearly 30 yrs. The aim is for interest throughout the seasons, based on foliage, texture and unusual plants which will flourish at over 1000ft. A wide range of insects has resulted. The site provides a clay loam soil and a range of aspects so that many plant groups thrive. Snitterton Hall is a Grade I listed late Elizabethan manor house, and its gardens extend to over 4 acres. While little of the original C16 and C17 gardens remain, there are areas of formal planting, a productive vegetable garden and more naturally planted areas extending into the surrounding countryside – with a delightful collection of sculptures. The gardens are a real haven. Opens for By Arrangement visits from February to September for groups of up to 20.
