13 Lapwing Lane, Stockton-On-Tees

Norton is pretty with a village duckpond, fountain, green and Saxon Church. Garden on the small side with interest in hanging baskets, tree fern greenery and colour, not forgetting the delightful Nellie the Elephant crafted with a hedge trimmer. Colour and interest throughout the year. Solar dome greenhouse which is used to sit in and enjoy the bird. Mini pond with waterfall. Opens for By Arrangement visits from June to 13 September for groups of between 5 and 15.

Old Quarrington Gardens

Three very distinct gardens in the hamlet of Old Quarrington. The Stables is a large family garden full of hidden surprises and extensive views. The main garden is about an acre inc gravel garden, orchard, play area, lawn and woodland gardens. There is a further 4 acres to explore which inc wildlife ponds, woodlands, meadows, hens, ducks and alpacas. The main garden at Rose Cottage is planted with wildlife friendly flowers and a pond that attracts 2 species of newts. To the rear there is a Mediterranean area and a woodland garden with stream beyond. Orchard Cottage has a strong focus on self sufficiency, re use and recycling, with a large vegetable plot growing a wide range of interesting edibles. Opens for By Arrangement visits from May to 1 October for groups of 12+.

Quarry End, Walworth

Woodland garden in an ancient quarry setting. Redeveloped over 25 yrs the garden has a C18 ice house, a wide variety of trees, shrubs and perennials, a fernery and ornamental vegetable plot. Spectacular late summer display but something of interest throughout the year inc an acre of reclaimed naturalised woodland in the adjacent quarry. Extensive views over South Durham. Opens for By Arrangement visits from April to September for groups of between 8 and 25.

Ravensford Farm, Hamsterley

In 1984 Ravensford Farm was a ruin in a field full of weeds, with one tree. Today it is surrounded by a richly varied garden, a wood, two ponds, orchard, rhododendron dell and extensive flower beds. This is a garden of year-round interest and variety. The focus is on colour in all seasons, and on hardy plants, some of which are rare and which survive in this sometimes challenging north-east area. Opens for By Arrangement visits from March to September.
