East Sussex By Arrangement gardens

If you’re looking to organise a private visit to a garden, whether it be for a local group or for friends and family, a By Arrangement can provide something a little different. In East Sussex there’s a range of gardens available for private By Arrangement visits, find out more below.

Town Place, Sheffield Park

A stunning 3 acre garden with a growing international reputation for the quality of its design, planting and gardening. Set round a C17 Sussex farmhouse (not open), the garden has over 400 roses, herbaceous borders, herb garden, white garden, topiary inspired by the sculptures of Henry Moore, an 800 yr old oak, potager, and a unique ruined Priory Church and Cloisters in hornbeam. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 3rd June to 5th July.

4 Waterworks Cottages, Rye

Garden designer Kristina Clode has created her wildlife friendly garden at 4 Waterworks Cottages over the last 14 yrs. Delightful wildflower meadow, pond, wisteria covered pergola and mixed borders packed full of unusual specimens with year-round interest and colour. Terraced flower beds, woodland plants, plus a vegetable and fruit garden. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 3rd June to 11th October for groups of between 10 and 30.

Winterfield, Balcombe

Family garden originally planted nearly 75 yrs ago which continues to evolve. Current gardeners, mother and daughter, are the 2nd/3rd generation. A plantsman’s garden focusing on spring and early summer interest; herbaceous and shrub borders, pond, wildflower meadow, gravel beds and alpine troughs, secret garden, summerhouse and as many trees as can be accommodated into ⅓ acre. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 2nd April to June for groups of up to 50.

Wych Warren House, Forest Row

6 acre garden in Ashdown Forest, AONB, much of it mixed woodland. Perimeter walk all around property. Delightful and tranquil setting with plenty of space to roam, and various aspects of interest providing sensory and a relaxing visit. Ideal for forest bathing! Lovely stonework, specimen trees, three ponds, herbaceous borders, exotic bed, greenhouse and always something new on the go! Opens for By Arrangement visits from 18th May to 20th September for groups of 10+.
