Edge Villa, Shropshire: the hillside garden
Nestled in the South Shropshire hills, Edge Villa is a two-acre garden, full of blooms and abuzz with life. Over 14 years, Garden Owners, Chris and Bill, have introduced many unusual plants and fragrant roses, utilising clever designs to protect the garden from the strong winds which gather in the hills.

When Chris and Bill arrived in edge villa in 2006, the garden was a simple field – home to two donkeys and 35 hives of bees. This offered the perfect opportunity to start anew, a blank canvas to introduce new colours and textures.
Large herbaceous borders have been established over the years, all with many unusual plants and fragrant roses – thousands of which are lovingly propagated each year to sell at their National Garden Scheme open days.
The garden is full of life, with chickens milling around the orchard, an abundant vegetable patch, and a dog or two sunning itself on a warm patch of lawn.
In the summer months, visitors to the garden often find great joy sitting under the old plum tree, looking out across the garden and listening to the birds. At 400ft up, it’s easy to leave your troubles behind and relax in this hilltop haven.
