Fiona Bruce becomes new ambassador for the National Garden Scheme
PRESS RELEASE
23 January, 2025
The National Garden Scheme is delighted to announce that ground-breaking journalist and presenter Fiona Bruce is joining the charity as an ambassador. The first woman to present the BBC Ten O’Clock News and the first to host a general election results programme, Fiona also hosts Antiques Roadshow, Question Time and Fake or Fortune.
Commenting on her appointment Fiona says: “I am thrilled to be a new ambassador for the National Garden Scheme. I’ve been visiting National Garden Scheme gardens for as long as I can remember, it’s one of the great pleasures of my life, so to be part of the charity is a total thrill. I love gardening, it’s a big part of my life. I have to say I’m not the most skillful gardener, but I make up for in enthusiasm what I lack in skill.
“The National Garden Scheme is a wonderful charity, it gives people the opportunity to see what can be done, to get inspiration from other gardens, to just get out there in nature – that’s why I’ve visited so many gardens over the years. And it also raises an incredible amount of money and makes an important contribution to our country’s nursing and healthcare.
“To be part of this as the charity heads towards its centenary in 2027 is a great honour and a privilege. I am genuinely thrilled to be part of the National Garden Scheme.”
Commenting on Fiona Bruce joining as an ambassador, chief executive George Plumptre said: “Having Fiona join our team of ambassadors is wonderful news for the National Garden Scheme and we look forward to her involvement with events and campaigns in the months and years ahead.”
Fiona joins National Garden Scheme ambassadors Emma Bridgewater CBE, Danny Clarke (aka the Black Gardener), Alan Gray, Rachel De Thame, Joe Swift and Jo Whiley.
