Generosity blooms from Positive Planting initiative with David Austin Roses

The National Garden Scheme would like a say a huge thank you to David Austin Roses for their generous support and donation in 2021.

Since the spring, as part of its Positive Planting initiative, the rose breeder has been busy raising donations through sales of three roses; the Generous Gardener (Ausdrawn), Princess Alexandra of Kent (Ausmerchant) and the new Nye Bevan (Auspital) rose.

Commenting on the donations David Austin Roses said: “Over £30,000 is being donated to each of our chosen 2021 charities – The National Garden Scheme, the Alexandra Rose Charity and NHS Charities Together – towards their invaluable work in supporting the health and wellbeing of their beneficiaries.”

As part of the initiative, the team at David Austin also donated 21 Generous Gardener roses to hospices around the country who open their gardens in partnership with the National Garden Scheme.

Of the company’s fundraising efforts this year, Richard Austin said: “It has been wonderful throughout this season to know our work has helped to raise much needed funds for such vital causes. Roses and health have always been interlinked and it has been a privilege to support our chosen health-based charities this year, alongside the many others we have supported over the years. We thank our customers for planting positively with us and enabling us to make such a significant contribution.”

Chief Executive of the National Garden Scheme, George Plumptre added: “We were immensely grateful at the outset to be included in David Austin’s ‘Positive Planting’ initiative, but we had no idea how successful it would turn out to be. On behalf of everyone at the National Garden Scheme, our heartfelt thanks to all at David Austin, you have certainly more than lived up to the name of the wonderful rose from which you gave us our donation, The Generous Gardener.”

David Austin roses grace many of the gardens that open for the National Garden Scheme.
