Hertfordshire’s Tiny Tropical Garden. See how dazzling colour, scent, lush tropical foliage, trickling water and clever use of pots in a densely planted small garden can transport you to the tropics. Stately bananas and canna rub shoulders with delicate lily and roses amongst a large variety of begonia, hibiscus, ferns and houseplants in a tropical theme more often associated with warmer climes. The 1½ acre garden is set out in several themes, prairie, woodland, pond and shrub areas, with wildflower meadows in the garden and surrounding four acre paddock. More informal shrub plantings with bulbs edge the woodland. A dry gravel garden leads through more meadow planting to the vegetable garden. Well established garden of approx 2½ acres; good variety of plants, shrubs and roses, attractive hedges. Visitors often ask for the unusual yellow only bed, ‘A most popular garden to visit’. Wonderful views in and out of the garden especially down to the Rib Valley to Youngsbury and the ruined Tower of St Mary and All Hallows church.
