Monks Lantern, Surrey: delicate style

Monks Lantern in Surrey is a garden filled with delights.

Taking inspiration from gardening greats, such as Vita Sackville-West, and her own experience as a window dresser, Garden Owner, Janice has transformed a traditional 1930s plot to a delicately styled garden…

Starting from a completely blank canvas in 1997, the Garden Owners have dug, planted and moulded the garden into its current shape. It is a space filled with stories – with many seeds and cuttings collected from the family’s Mediterranean holidays, including acacias and a selection of plants from the Canary Islands.

“We both feel that to open for the National Garden Scheme, share our love of gardening and meet so many wonderful people is a pleasure.” Janice comments. “The fact it raises money for such good causes is a bonus indeed!”
