By Arrangement gardens in North East Wales

If you’re looking to organise a private visit to a garden, whether it be for a local group or for friends and family, a By Arrangement can provide something a little different. In North East Wales there’s a range of gardens available for private By Arrangement visits, find out more below.

Aberclwyd Manor, Derwen

A four acre garden on a sloping hillside overlooking the Upper Clwyd Valley. The garden has many mature trees underplanted with snowdrops, fritillaries and cyclamen. An Italianate garden of box hedging lies below the house and shrubs, ponds, perennials, roses and an orchard are also to be enjoyed within this cleverly structured area. Mass of Cyclamen in Sept. Abundance of spring flowers. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 21st February to 25th September for groups of between 10 and 25.

5 Birch Grove, Prestatyn

The gardens consist of a variety of borders inc woodland, grass, herbaceous, alpine, shrub, drought, tropical and a simulated bog garden with a small pond. The more formal front lawned garden has borders of mixed colourful planting and box balls. A small greenhouse is fully used for propagation. Gravel drive with few steps. Plenty of parking and not far from the beach, Offa’s Dyke, and town centre. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 8th May to 11th September for groups of between 5 and 15.

33 Bryn Twr and Lynton, Abergele

Bryn Twr is a family garden with children, dogs, chickens, shrubs, roses, pots vegetables and lawn. Lynton completely different, intense cottage style garden: vegetables, trees, shrub, roses, ornamental grasses and lots of pots. Garage with interesting fire engine; classic cars and memorabilia; greenhouse over large water capture system that was part of an old swimming pool. Opens for By Arrangement visits in June.

Dolhyfryd, Denbigh

Established garden set in small valley of River Ystrad. Acres of crocuses in late Feb to early Mar. Paths through wildflower meadows and woodland of magnificent trees, shade loving plants and azaleas; mixed borders; walled kitchen garden. Many woodland and riverside birds, inc dippers, kingfishers, grey wagtails. Many species of butterfly encouraged by new planting. Much winter interest, exceptional display of crocuses. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 27th January to 1st November for groups of 10+.

Dove Cottage, Penyffordd

Approx 1½ acre garden, shrubs and herbaceous plants set informally around lawns. Established vegetable area, two ponds (one wildlife), summerhouse. Raised board walk through planted woodland area. Opens for By Arrangement visits from July to 1st September for groups of between 5 and 25.

Garthewin, Llanfairtalhaiarn

Valley garden with ponds and woodland areas. Much of the eight acres have been reclaimed and redesigned providing a younger garden with a great variety of azaleas, rhododendrons and young trees, all within a framework of mature shrubs and trees. Opens for By Arrangement visits from April to 1st November.

The Homestead, Horsemans Green

For 20 years we opened The Old Rectory, Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr, for the National Garden Scheme. We have moved and look forward to inviting visitors to our new garden which has an emphasis on low maintenance, but without losing any of our passion for plants. It has taken three years to reimagine this new garden. We have planted an abundance of acers, magnolias, Cornus species, perennials, bulbs. Opens for By Arrangement visits from February to September.

Plas Coch, Ruthin

Well established country garden with deep and varied herbaceous borders, vegetable garden and fruit trees with heritage variety small orchard. Other sections inc small yard garden, pond areas, three seater tybach (outside privy) MG TC 1949, all in the centre of the vale of Clwyd with extensive views towards the Clwydian Hills. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 31st May to June for groups of between 5 and 10.

Saith Ffynnon Farm, Whitford

Wildlife garden of an acre and re-wilded meadows of eight acres, inc ponds, woods, wildflower meadows, butterfly and bee gardens, Medieval herbal, natural dye garden and the Plant Heritage National Collection of Eupatorium. Garden at it’s best early Sep to early Oct. Opens for By Arrangement visits from 16th May to 15th September for groups of up to 10.

Tal-y-Bryn Farm. Denbigh

Medium sized working farmhouse cottage garden. Ancient farm machinery. Incorporating ancient privy festooned with honeysuckle, clematis and roses. Terraced arches, sunken garden pool and bog garden, fountains and old water pumps. Herb wheels, shrubs and other interesting features. Lovely views of the Clwydian range. Water feature, new rose tunnel, vegetable tunnel and small garden summerhouse. Opens for By Arrangement visits from April to 1st October.
