The garden where Kenneth Grahame read Wind in the Willows to local children and where he took inspiration for his description of the oak doors to Badger’s House. Come and see, you may catch a glimpse of Toad and friends in this 3½ acre chalk and water garden, in a beautiful spring line village. Caversfield House consists of 10 acres of garden, inc herbaceous borders, a walled garden, an orchard and parkland set within a wider 70 acre estate. Stunning views to the Chiltern Hills provide a wonderful setting for this impressive garden, remodelled in 2009. Patio, heather and gravel gardens enjoy this view, whilst the back and vegetable gardens are more enclosed. A very large apple tree blew down in the spring of 2022 and has been replaced by a summerhouse. This has resulted in a major revision of the planting. Behind the rather severe façade of a Victorian town house (not open) is a very protected long walled garden with mature trees. The planting reflects the varied levels of shade and inc rare and unusual plants. The trees in the front garden deserve attention. The back garden is divided into 3 distinct parts, each with a very different character. Amongst other things there is a hornbeam roof.
