A private garden and gallery evolved over 20 years designed and planted by its artist owner and reflects her idiosyncratic style, love of co-ordinated colour, enthusiasm for rock placement, and joy in designing extraordinary metalwork. A limited number of tickets have been made available for these two special one-day events kindly hosted by Frieda Hughes. Introductory talk by Frieda on her garden and art followed by tour of garden and gallery. Opens Wednesday 10th June and 15th July, pre-booking essential.
Spectacular five acre garden set in parkland with medieval oaks. In June the herbaceous borders are at their peak, planted with perennials. Stately cardoons and Crambe cordifolia are underplanted with Centaurea, poppies, roses, alliums, Circium, Tradescantia and flowering shrubs. Roses bloom in the box edged parterre and these formal plantings contrast with the natural grasses that have been encouraged for the summer in the long Victorian archery lawn on the terrace. Opens Wednesday 24th June, pre-booking essential.
