Bramble Cottage is a topiary garden created and maintained by us for 27 years. We have box parterres, a formal rose garden and yew topiary. It is a ¾ of an acre site in rural Shropshire with lots of box balls and new topiary in development. In addition, we have yew, box and beech hedges and all things topiary. Steep cottage style garden with many steps; part wild, part cultivated, terraced in places and overlooking the Severn Valley with views to High Rock and Queens Parlour. The garden features shrubs, perennials, wildlife pond, summerhouse and, in the wilderness area, wildflowers, fruit trees and a sandstone outcrop. A unique two acre hillside garden with many steps and levels bordering River Perry. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of plants and styles from formal terraces to woodland paths. The Good Garden Guide said ‘It has to be seen to be believed’. The lower areas are for the sure-footed while the upper levels with a large kitchen garden and glasshouses have many places to sit and enjoy the views. A formal village garden of ¾ acre, approached via a drive lined with crab apple and pear trees. On the right is the autumn garden, giving fine views of the surrounding hills. From the front courtyard garden a path leads through double herbaceous borders full of late summer colour, to further rooms, of yew, beech and box. There is also a rear courtyard with tender exotics. A cottage garden around ½ an acre in size comprising mixed herbaceous borders and an abundance of English roses. Highlights inc home-made water features, raised beds and pergolas, oriental garden, hosta garden, alpine and herb beds and a productive fruit and vegetable garden and greenhouse. An acre of gardens crafted over 35+ years, complete with sculptures, stonework and working herb and kitchen garden. From March onwards, you will find over 5000 bulb flowers inc tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, alliums, blossoming trees and dancing pond flowers. Summer brings a variety of flowers, inc David Austin roses, giant agapanthus, dahlias, clary, foxgloves, fuchsias and arum lilies. Opens for By Arrangement visits for groups of between 10 and 50.
Within the super structure of mature larches and interconnected ponds, a wide range of rhododendrons and azaleas have been planted as well as shade appreciating trees and shrubs over 10 acres. Our oasis is a small town garden completed in a tropical style. There are several examples of plants native to other shores but which are happy in the space we have created. With over 200 plants inc tree ferns, bananas, palm trees and cottage garden plants arranged around a variety of seating areas, our visitors have a perpetual sense of being on holiday. An acre of garden that has evolved over 24 years, with four lawns, a rose bed in the middle of the drive with pink and white English roses, and herbaceous and mixed shrub borders. There are roses planted throughout the garden and in the spring daffodils and tulips abound. Two large beech trees frame the garden with a view that sweeps down the valley over fields and then up to the Long Mynd. Opens for By Arrangement visits from April to September.
Set amidst farmland, 3 ½ acres of gardens, created over 45 years by John and Elizabeth Ravenscroft, surrounding the Grade II listed old rectory. Formal gardens, a walled garden, man-made stream, large pool with stepping stones, lawns and wilder wooded areas. Collections of azaleas, magnolias, peonies. The garden is ¾ acre, with different planting areas. We have hydrangeas, hostas, woodland walk, hot garden and herbaceous borders with white garden with loggia.
