St Merryn; a family-friendly Devon garden

Artist Ros Bradford has created a wonderful family-friendly garden with her husband over the last forty-five years. Now living in the studio next to the main house, Ros is lucky to have her family with her in the current social-distancing lockdown. Come and meet Ros and her family in their charming garden in Braunton, Devon.

A closer look

The one-acre garden at St Merryn was very neglected on the arrival of the present owners but has been renovated, developed and matured over the last forty-five years, and is an ongoing process. Planted to sustain interest throughout the year using foliage as well as flowers along with scent and colour-themed borders. There are many sheltered seating areas for relaxation. Owner Ros Bradford, an artist, has planned to the garden so that it leads the visitor visually round the garden using the winding paths, leading to the summerhouse (built and initially thatched by the owners), the ponds – the sculptural bonfire – the hens and the swimming pool (also self-built). Earth removed in the construction of the studio/gallery has been used to construct the grassy knoll. It is a garden made for relaxation and enjoyment!
