Volunteer with us
The National Garden Scheme’s history is steeped in the importance of our volunteers and we make sure we give them every opportunity to succeed in their roles with us. We currently have over 350 volunteers, who help to organise around 3,700 open gardens each year. Our busiest time of year is spring and summer (the best seasons for gardens) and we have a variety of roles we’d love you to get involved in. For example:
Do you have experience in press and publicity? You could volunteer in a media role dealing with local press.
Do you enjoy finance? You could help the National Garden Scheme in a treasury role.
Do you enjoy talking to people and visiting gardens? Perhaps you could become part of our county team.
Who can volunteer?
Although knowledge of gardens is always helpful, the main requirement is good organisational skills and being happy to work as part of a team.
If you are over 16 years old, have an enthusiasm for gardens, the natural world and fundraising, and have time to help in the summer, we would love to hear from you! Helping out at gardens by serving teas or managing a National Garden Scheme social media page are also options for volunteering.
What’s in it for you?
As a volunteer, you will be helping to raise vital funds for nursing charities, as well as celebrating our national heritage! Volunteering is also great work experience, for anyone looking to improve their CV.
Help and training is always given to our new volunteers.
