Established in 1913 Coolings are plant specialists, still family run, their four garden centres focus on producing a huge variety of top quality plants for all garden lovers. Thousands are grown on-site in their own nurseries, eliminating the risk of imported pests and diseases and enabling them to offer a 5 year hardy plant guarantee. The horticulturally trained team are on-site to answer customer questions and make plant recommendations.

Enclosed by vast yew hedges, the gardens were designed to complement the Jacobean house. Terraced lawns punctuated by topiary and ornamental trees lead through herbaceous borders, rose garden and formal lily pond to an Italian garden and walled garden with glasshouses, delphiniums, fruit, vegetables, cut flowers and iris border. In spring the Wild Garden is a mass of daffodils, fritillaries, primroses and anemones.

The 300 acre Herstmonceux estate is home to the moated 15th Century Herstmonceux Castle, the oldest brick building of note still standing in England. Its themed and formal gardens, woodland walks and nature trails are a haven of peace and tranquillity.
In addition to being a popular tourist attraction, Herstmonceux Castle is an International Study Centre for Queen’s University in Canada. As such, the Castle is not freely open to the public. For information on castle tours, please check the website or enquire at the ticket on arrival.

The Weald Smokery is an artisan food smoker, based on the border of Kent and E Sussex. They use traditional methods, burning local oak logs and in brick kilns. These methods have consistently attracted the attention of the judges at the Great Taste Awards where they have won Gold Awards for most of their product. All the food produced on site is available to buy in their lovely shop as well as a wonderful selection of quality cheese and speciality food. Also ‘try before you buy’ in their new restaurant adjoining the shop.

Seasonal, organically grown flowers and pick-your-own flowers for weddings and events. We are ‘green’ florists who grow flowers and foliage in the middle of a fruit farm in Kent. We also run courses and workshops on flower-arranging and growing flowers. Our flowers are available from April to October and our foliage throughout the year. We pride ourselves on using recycled, recyclable and / or compostable packaging.
