Wiltshire gardens open in July

With summer in full swing, there’s plenty of opportunities to visit gardens in Wiltshire throughout the month of July…

Teasel, Salisbury

Extensively developed since 2020, Teasel’s 11 acres inc long herbaceous borders, a lake and ½m riverside walk. Recently added potager, shrub border, hoggin pathways through orchard to fruit store, Monet inspired bridge, duck house on small pond, water lilies, specimen trees, chess pavilion and croquet lawn. Enjoy teas on the upper terrace with magnificent views of the garden and river. Opens Sunday 6th July.

The Parish House, Mere

The garden at The Parish House is small and south facing surrounded by hedges protecting it from the exposure of a high wide open landscape beyond. The garden is laid out with gravel to encourage a self-seeding natural look but there are also roses and herbaceous perennials as well. The look is held together with topiary. Beyond this garden there is a larger area of lawn, trees and developing bulb cover (Camassia). Large conservatory greenhouse containing mature Muscat grapevine and pelargoniums. Small vegetable garden. Opens Sunday 6th July.

Dane Brook, Milkhouse Water

Approx 1 acre of gardens, inc herbaceous beds, shrubs, trees, semi formal garden, roses, oxbow pond with planted banks and thatched summerhouse with Yorkstone patio. Tree lined river walk runs the length of the garden, leading to shrubbery. Also lawns and paved areas with planted containers. Far reaching views from 2 acres of paddocks, with Jacob’s sheep and rare breed chickens. Opens Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th July.

Little Durnford Manor, Little Durnford

Extensive lawns with cedars, wildflower meadows, walled gardens, fruit trees, large vegetable garden, small knot and herb gardens. Terraces, borders, sunken garden, water garden, lake with islands, river walks, labyrinth walk. Opens Sunday 13th July.

Cherry Orchard Barn, Luckington

A charming one acre garden, created from the corner of a field, with open views of surrounding countryside. Containing seven rooms, three of which are densely planted with herbaceous perennials, each with individual identities and colour themes. The garden is described by visitors as a haven of tranquillity. Opens Sunday 20th July.

Twigs Community Garden, Swindon

Delightful 2 acre community garden, created and maintained by volunteers. Features inc 7 individual display gardens, ornamental pond, plant nursery, Iron Age round house, artwork, fitness trail, separate kitchen garden site, Swindon beekeepers and the haven, overflowing with wild flowers. Opens Sunday 20th July.

Preshute Lane Gardens, Manton

Three very different gardens each with their own distinct personality situated on Preshute Lane in the picturesque village of Manton. Peacock Cottage, the largest, has sweeping lawns with large herbaceous beds packed with summer colour, rose bed, mature trees, parterre, and wildflower area creating an interesting journey. An exotic bed sits near the house providing a lush, tropical oasis. Greentrees has an eclectic mix of herbaceous and shrub borders, trees, raised flower bed and various secret seating areas. Potted plants adorn the doorway on arrival. The Old Post Office is a thatched house with a contemporary and pretty small courtyard, consisting of a raised flower bed and private seating area. Opens Sunday 27th July.

Corsley House, Corsley

A garden full of surprises to reflect the eclectic nature of a Georgian home with a secret Jacobean facade. A unique sculpted wave lawn and a truly exceptional walled garden. Many well preserved ancient outbuildings such as a potting and apple storage shed and a granary built on staddle stones. All gloriously overlooking the NT’s Cley Hill. Opens Sunday 27th July.
