Alverton Cottage is a Grade II listed Regency house. The garden is modest in size though large for a Penzance garden, south facing and sheltered by mature trees. There is a large monkey-puzzle tree, a holm oak and many other trees. The garden was laid out in the 1860s. Packed with many plants and shrubs inc over 100 named roses, several varieties of hydrangeas and perfumed plants in abundance. A small town garden divided into many different areas. The garden is set in 2 acres on a hillside. It has been developed over the past 30 yrs and is part parkland, part ‘plantsman’ in style, featuring a wide variety of trees, shrubs and perennials. This new, medium sized, plant lovers garden, has been created by Tricia and Peter following their retirement from Hidden Valley Gardens near Par, which won the RHS Partner Garden of the Year in 2023. Towan House is a coastal garden with some unusual plants and views to St Mawes, St Anthony Head lighthouse and beyond with easy access to the SW coast path overlooking Falmouth Bay. A coastal garden, created in 2016, of approx 1 acre overlooking the Atlantic and the Lizard Lighthouse. It is a steep sloping garden divided into 3 terraces accessed by slopes or steps. Set in the grounds of Tremorran, a mine captain’s house built in the early 1900s. A maze of paths lead to many ‘rooms’ furnished with seating and sculptures. A sloping pebble beach around the wildlife pond is planted with a variety of grasses and sea holly. This is a unique ‘Walking Garden’ on the ancient St Michael’s Way. The garden is approx 1½ acres with a variety of distinct areas, inc a rose garden, potager, fernery, orchard and wild areas. As featured on BBC Gardeners’ World, this eccentric, romantic and constantly evolving garden, as befits the intense creativity of its owners, has been carved out of an expanse of concrete farmyard over 20 yrs. Featuring an elaborate network of decorative cobbling, pools, container garden, vegetable garden, shade garden, the largely subtropical mowhay garden and both owners’ studios, but arguably its glory is the westernmost walled rose garden in England.
