Alverton Cottage is a Grade II listed Regency house. The garden is modest in size though large for a Penzance garden, south facing and sheltered by mature trees. There is a large monkey-puzzle tree, a holm oak and many other trees. The garden was laid out in the 1860s. As featured on BBC Gardeners’ World, this eccentric, romantic and constantly evolving garden, as befits the intense creativity of its owners, has been carved out of an expanse of concrete farmyard over 20 yrs. Featuring an elaborate network of decorative cobbling, pools, container garden, vegetable garden, shade garden, the largely subtropical mowhay garden and both owners’ studios, but arguably its glory is the westernmost walled rose garden in England.
