Market Bosworth is an attractive market town, with an enviable record for the quality of its regular entry in the annual East Midlands in Bloom competition. There are a number of gardens open, all within walking distance of the Market Square. The gardens show various planting styles and different approaches to small and intimate spaces in the historic town centre, as well as larger plots in more recent developments. Opens Sunday 7th July.
A small SSW garden with water features to add interest to the colourful and some unusual perennials inc climbers to supplement the trees and shrubs in May and July. Garden established and recently re-established by current owner to provide seating for a variety of views of the garden. Many perennials in the garden are represented in the plants for sale. Wigston Gardens consists of four relatively small gardens all within a 2m radius of each other. There is something different to see at each garden from traditional and formal to a taste of the unusual via wildflowers, upcycling, interesting artefacts and prairie style planting. A couple of the gardens are within walking distance of one another but you will need to travel by car to visit all of the gardens in the group or it will make for quite a long walk and you’ll need your comfy shoes. Willoughby Waterleys lies in the South Leicestershire countryside. 7 gardens will be open. John’s Wood is a 1½ acre nature reserve planted to encourage wildlife. 2 Church Farm Lane has been professionally designed with many interesting features. Farmway is a plant lovers garden with many unusual plants in colour themed borders. 3 Orchard Road is a small south facing garden packed with interesting features. High Meadow has been evolving over 14yrs. Inc mixed planting and ornamental vegetable garden. Kapalua has an interesting planting design incorporating views of open countryside. 3 Yew Tree Close is a wrap around garden that naturally creates a series of rooms with cottage garden style borders. Opens Sunday 14th July.
A fairly formal garden on an exposed site surrounded by open fields. Mature trees enclosing the many varied plants chosen to give all round year interest. Many unusual hardy plants grown along side good reliable old favourites present a range of colour themed borders. Grass and gravel paths allow access to the whole garden. Opens Sunday 14th and Wednesday 17th July.
Set within the grounds of the Glenfield Hospital, the Secret Garden is 1 acre in size, hidden behind the walls of a Victorian Walled garden which has been lovingly designed and restored for the benefit of all those who visit it and in consideration of the rich history and heritage of the garden and the wider Leicester Frith site. Opens Saturday 20th July.
