Due to the extreme weather warnings in place for many parts of the UK this week, we would urge you to check Find a Garden before travelling in case of any closures or changes. To ensure the wellbeing of our visitors and volunteers, please can we ask you to take sensible precautions when visiting a garden, such as:

  • Staying hydrated
  • Applying suncream, wearing a wide-brimmed hat and light clothing

Please do alert the Garden Owner or any of their volunteer helpers, if you feel unwell or are aware of any visitor who is struggling with the extreme temperatures.

Affordable days out: great value visits & children go free

Visits to National Garden Scheme gardens have always represented good value for money. The average admission price in 2026 to a National Garden Scheme garden is £6.37 (up just 24p on 2025) for an adult and, in most cases, children under 16 go free. Coastal gardens to explore

With their often fabulous views and windy, climatic challenges, coastal gardens provide a particularly enticing destination for the garden visitor. From Cornwall to Northern Ireland the National Garden Scheme has a collection of inspiring coastal gardens to visit in 2026.

The Big British Garden Survey

Take part in our new garden survey and help reveal the hidden wildlife in your garden.

We’ve teamed up with the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH), a world leading independent research institute and leader in community science research to deliver this exciting new project.

Art in our gardens

Gardening is a creative pursuit so it’s little surprise that many National Garden Scheme gardens are owned by painters, sculptures, designers and ceramicists. Some display and sell their work, some allow access to their studio’s, other garden owners host art exhibitions or have displays of sculpture adding interest to their planting – each gives a unique flavour to the garden visiting experience.

Record donations show the power of gardens and garden visits for good causes

2025 was another landmark year for the National Garden Scheme with a record £3,875,596 donated from funds gathered at garden openings throughout the year. The donations helped thousands of people living with cancer, Parkinson’s, poor mental health, or the pressures of unpaid caring, by supporting the nurses, health professionals and case workers who care for them.
