About 23 Hartington Road

Small urban garden tropical in theme, plants inc tetrapanax rex, bananas, colocasia, begonias, crocosmia, a prunus serrula all nestling amongst 6 metre high Phyllostachys Aurea and many ferns, inc tree ferns. Its east facing and rather shady but hopefully invokes a temperate rain forest. No pesticides, insecticides or peat has ever been used in the garden. A shady space so I chose plants that like a forest or jungle setting – This is where my love of big leaved tropicals originated alongside natives such as sedges and ferns. Its a small plot at 50 x 30 foot but hopefully the planting makes a big impact – its a walled city garden so is quite warm hence my experiments with tropicals. It also contains a small wildlife pond and therefore hundreds of frogs, and a greenhouse made out of entirely recycled windows.
