About 57 Edge Lane

A large garden on three levels that backs onto Turn Moss, part of the Mersey flood plain. Our garden is inspired by Pteridomania, the rhododendrons and azaleas at Arley Hall, Japanese gardens and Roxy Music. The top level comprises of a viewing deck that looks over the rest of the garden as well as planting and layout that shows Japanese influences. There are 55 trees in the garden which includes rowan, pine, maple, fig, yew and a heritage orchard that includes the oldest recorded type of apple tree in England. The garden also contains six ponds. At the side of the house is our version of the Chorlton ‘yarden’, which also acts as a ‘plant it and see what happens’ area. The garden also contains a ‘Victory Garden’ our vegetable patch, that tends to become dominated by tomatoes and courgettes. Throughout garden classics rub shoulders with wildflowers, which have self-seeded. The garden also contains many fossils that we have collected over the years, that act as small features, to enhance borders or act as edging. Recycled and re-purposed materials are much in evidence and spread throughout the garden.
