About 61 Humber Avenue
A suburban garden hidden in a quiet residential street a stones throw from the entrance to Belhus Nature Reserve. The space features an enormous cherry tree thought to originate from the orchard of the famous Belhus Mansion designed by Capability Brown.
The garden features abundant large borders planted heavily with herbaceous plants, small trees, many fragrant beautiful roses, exotic lilies, phloxes and ornamental grasses. The borders evolve and mingle through the garden with oriental senses mixed with a traditional English feel. The huge cherry tree provides a great opportunity to explore shady areas too with many hostas, trees, ferns, hydrangeas, woodland and Japanese style plants.
There is also a large patio displaying imaginative containers including water plants containers, succulents and huge hanging baskets coupled with a large awning giving shelter from hot or wet weather. Climbing star jasmine and white iceberg climbing rose covers the elevation of the house.
The owners are interested in design, especially in Japanese art of Ikebana and are members of the Sogetsu International Ikebana school. The original arrangements will be displayed around the garden as part of the open day. They are also incredibly enthusiastic bakers so tea and cakes promise to be a treat
