About 9 Stoke Place

9 Stoke Place is a medium-sized garden on the Northern edge of Headington, down a lane which dwindles to a bridleway leading down to the ring road. There are two main garden areas. The old garden is edged by herbaceous borders ranging in width with a variety of trees and shrubs, to provide colour from flowers and foliage for most of the year. In contrast, the second garden, created in 2014, has a large paved area at one end, and five paths radiating from a circular pond. The beds thus created are gravelled at the sunny end and planted mainly with phormiums and yuccas; at the shady end are alliums, a topiary area, and a bed of acanthus, hydrangeas, and shade-loving plants. There are several trees, including a ginkgo and a gleditsia. Varied shapes and colours provide year-round pleasure.
