About Ansells Barn

This garden created by the former owners of Greenfields Farm will be four years old in 2024. It shows how an unpromising start with builders’ rubble can be turned into an interesting and productive garden. There are multiple varieties of certain trees and plants, such as Perry pears, crab apples, grasses and acers. A sheltered courtyard provides the setting for container grown shrubs and a place to savour the views and the wildlife. Raised vegetable beds designed to be viewed from the house; imposing sculptures and the Dutch-inspired long bed which suggests a kind of living sculpture. At the far end of the garden is a new orchard planted as a circle – a fruit henge!
