About Coverham Abbey

I was inspired to create the knot garden in 2003, with the help of garden designer Jane Cordingley, after discovering a Common Book from Coverham in the British Library. This was written by John Gisborne, a Canon in 1484. Amongst the recipes and prayers was a drawing of a simple knot. This seemed like the perfect template to use in the existing shady grass area surrounding the abbey ruins.’.
