About Crichel House

The gardens and grounds at Crichel House are extensive and centrally includes a 3-acre walled garden which is split into three distinctive parts. As you enter the walled garden the initial garden area is filled with a very traditional cottage style garden which then blends into a wildflower orchard. This then drifts into 7 individual secret themed gardens rooms which include the blue and white garden, fragrant garden, tapestry gardens (x2), hot garden and the silver and lavender gardens. In addition to this there is the ‘chill out’ garden with a grass sofa and stunning garden sculpture in the shape of a large sphere. This also includes a lime avenue flanked by orchards and tulips which leads to a reflecting pond and the viewpoint is completed by a stone pavilion.

The walled garden is located in the middle of a beautifully manicured park setting of approximately 60 acres, which includes the most inspiring historic tree planting, with many trees having been planted 200 to 300 years ago. Mark and his gardening team have tried to emulate the framework of what had already been created and have continued annual planting of all size of trees from whips to semi-mature specimens. Framing the park and in front of the main Palladian façade of the house is an incredible 40-acre lake, which is home to so much wildlife and aquatic life. In addition to tree planting, thousands of perennial bulbs are planted every year and increasingly make spring a spectacular affair and a riot of bright spring colour. More recently the focus has been on landscaping a new pool house garden, which is 2 acres in size with an enormous deep border, which has been planted so far with over 1,400 plants.

A limited number of tickets have been made available for this special one-day event, kindly hosted by the head gardener, Mark Lyons. Meet at the front of the house on the main drive for an introductory talk on the gardens, followed by a guided tour accompanied by Mark and his gardening team who will be available throughout the garden. After visiting the garden, home-made teas will be served in the stable courtyard.
