About Crumble Cottages

We arrived in 2013 with a plan to develop the gardens alongside a total renovation of our cottage and building two luxury holiday homes out of disused barns. Installing services and drainage required extensive excavations and most areas have been totally rebuilt using existing materials. The vegetable gardens were completely overgrown, the only sight of the bee boles were in documents. The fields that had been intensively farmed for years we now manage for wildlife with our lower field completely re-wilded. This involved a large scale excavation of an underground culvert to introduce ponds, streams, the planting hundreds of trees and lines of hedgerows. Many of our visitors are keen environmentalists. In recent years we have started to concentrate on the ornamental areas around the cottages. As a professional horticulturalist Sarah has now found time to experiment with colour schemes and find homes for her favourite plant collections. We are always delighted to discuss all our developments, design concepts and future projects with garden visitors.
