About Glandwr
‘Glandwr’ meaning by the water, has developed from a neglected cottage garden and over grown woodland. The stream running alongside one side of the garden is mostly hidden in a deep gully, but slate steps for access are tucked away behind three little old sheds, hosts to many climbers. A deck overhangs one part of the stream for viewing and entertaining, and also provides a vista to the fields and hills beyond.
To the rear of the cottage is a patio seating area. The adjoining rockery has three sets of steps leading up to the lawn, which links the sloping garden. In this area, old apple trees provide shaded beds, a separate bed for conifers, a yellow border, a bog bed, borders and beds of shrubs and flowers, and a crescent shape carved into the slope for roses. Through to a small formal garden.
The woodland once impenetrable, now lends itself to winding paths leading to secret rooms. A platform looks out over an adjacent swamp, there are stone features, arbours, overhanging tunnels, areas of newly introduced shrubs plants and trees, and quiet seating areas have all been created to give an interesting walk. Roses and clematis growing on the fences, trellis, arches and old tree stumps and the hedges and trees surrounding the garden and woodland give ‘Glandwr’ it’s seclusion.
