Helyg

A garden that combines planting and novel ideas to stimulate interest, with many seats for relaxation. There are different areas with their own character, naturalised spring bulbs,many hostas, roses, rhododendrons, camellias, irises, buddleias, fuchsias, azaleas, herbs, vegetables and exotics. Raised beds, three ponds and four water features supplement the plants and a recently added 'dry garden'.

About Helyg

Starting at the front of the bungalow is a newly planted dry garden and a hosta bed under a flowering cherry and magnolia. A patio has camellias, and assorted other potted plants. Passing the main hosta bed leads to the sheltered side of the bungalow with ferns, dwarf hostas and the back garden. A rear patio features fuchsias and lilies surrounded by a raised lavender beds, and beyond these are a herb garden which also contains agapanthus, eucomis and other various ‘exotics’ in pots, a rose garden, an island grass border, ponds and water features (a 4 ft water wheel and 3 different solar powered pumps), an orchard and other areas with individual settings and walks to explore. There is a large enclosed organic vegetable plot with dahlias for cutting at one end. Suffolk Black chickens provide organic fertiliser as well as eggs! Artistic design and planting is supplemented by stained glass panels.

From Barningham Xrds/shop turn off the B1111 towards Coney Weston & Knettishall Country Park. After approx 1m Helyg will be found on L behind some large willow trees.
