About Jack Green Cottage
Bought in 2010 and extensively landscaped since, Jack Green Cottage has a large, 2.7 acres (one hectare) garden with different points of interest. Our philosophy is sustainable and organic gardening. The planting tries to be as much ‘bee and bird-friendly’ as possible.
There are many areas of interest: wild pond and rill encouraging frogs and dragonflies surrounded by bog planting and including a big colony of 12 foot tall gunneras, the long border of herbaceous perennials, a small Japanese-style garden with small ponds and waterfall, a woodland area and fernery.
We have an orchard and a productive vegetable plot and have won awards at Southport flower show with our flowers and vegetables.
We keep hens who roam free most of the year and provide the freshest of eggs.
The children’s corner includes a willow den, a metal chain Burma bridge, swings .
Being in a rural area and surrounded by fields and forest, we have wild fallow deer, pheasants, hares and bats visiting our garden.
