About Lower Penbothidnow

Garden developed by current owner and gardener. The garden is mostly arranged on a gentle south facing slope with some areas having a more easterly aspect. It is divided into different areas or gardens: pond garden, lawn with rockery and herbaceous borders, round terrace overlooking tree fern dell, sculpture lawn and shrubbery, with hydrangea borders, wild flower meadow with shrub borders, formal memorial garden with fountain, field borders and dry terraces, as well as a green house and cold frame working area. These areas surround house, cottage and studio which are converted farm buildings. An area of ‘prairie planting’ is under development.

Wide range of plants, including flowering specimen trees, such as magnolia, camellia, banksia, and pawlonia, a Southern Hemisphere and Mediterranean area with spring and summer flowering shrubs including telopia, herbaceous borders and a more usual Cornish offering of tree fern dell, rhododendrons, azaleas and hydrangeas.

Design uses the terrain to create linked areas to enjoy, with a different atmosphere and planting, also using sculpture to add interest.
