About Rose Ash House
Rose Ash House sits on a high, cool and wet ridge between the Moors. The gardens have been developed over 14 years, incorporating many old trees and plants, including roses over 125 years old. Old steps and features have been revealed, and new paths and avenues established. The soil is ideal for camelias, azaleas & rhodos, and hydrangeas (a particular feature of the garden) later in the season. We try to be pollinator-friendly!
A small kitchen-garden has been put in, and a polytunnel & green-houses help lengthen the vegetable growing-season.
A large area of grass has not been cut for seven years and the butterflies can be superb. The adjoining fields to the west still have a wide variety of old-fashioned meadow grasses & plants.
Martyn Rix, renowned botanist and plant-collector will be in the garden from 11am till 3pm on Sat & Sun to help identify & advise on plants you want to bring. Melinda Hilliard, a garden-design teacher/consultant, will also be on hand to answer questions about garden-layouts etc.
The local church is just across the grade 2-listed Village Green & will be full of flowers for the occasion.
Tea, scones & cakes etc will be on sale, as will a selection of plants – some provided by Martyn Rix.
