St Oswalds Church

A private community garden, born out of a vision to provide an oasis of green space in a neglected area. Browse the raised vegetable beds, watch the wildlife pond. Enjoy spring bulbs, followed by a procession of different blooms through summer and autumn. The garden started in October 2020, and now has borders with flowers and produce, willow pergola and arch, seating areas, and a story to tell.

About St Oswalds Church

The garden is in the grounds of St Oswald’s church, run by registered charity ‘The Genesis Project Middlesbrough’. It is run with the environment in mind; sustainability is very important to us, and we provide habitats and food for wildlife with a pond and a ‘brasher hedge’. We repair, reuse and recycle as much as possible. We have a photo board showing the development of the garden from a bramble filled jungle to a series of welcoming rooms in an urban area with few loved green spaces. We look forward to answering your questions about all the activities on the site, which include an eco-shop, clothes and household goods bank, groups for children and teenagers, a family gym, community lunches.
